Aerospace comprises the atmosphere of Earth and surrounding space. Typically the term is used to refer to the Aerospace industry, which researches, designs, manufactures, operates, and maintains vehicles moving through air and space. The aerospace field is diverse, with a multitude of commercial, industrial, and military applications. (Note that aerospace is not the same as airspace, which is a term used to describe the physical air space directly above a location on the ground). Aerospace Engineering is the branch of engineering behind the design, construction and science of aircraft and spacecraft. It is broken into two major and overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. The former deals with craft that stay within Earth's atmosphere, and the latter deals with craft that operate outside of Earth's atmosphere.
