Due to disturbances, the operating frequency in a power system can deviate from the declared or nominal frequency. For the purpose of operation, control and protection of the power system, there is a need to estimate with high accuracy in real time the system operating frequency.
Drawing on the voltage and current waveforms obtained from the data acquisition systems, the objective of the project is to develop a fast and accurate signal processing algorithm suitable for online applications for estimating the operating frequency in a power system. The project will involve synthesis and identification of parameters of power system waveforms model. It is required that the frequency estimation procedure must be accurate for waveforms with distortions due to harmonics or frequency components arising from transient operating conditions.
